baked macaroni and cheese (southern)
This has been passed down from a few friends and the tradition is to credit the person you inherited from. I received it from my friend Becky. Not only is it a hit at pot lucks but also at the dinner table. It makes enough that you can enjoy the leftovers, which are delish!

Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups sharp cheddar cheese
- 1 cup mayonnaise
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1 can cream of mushroom soup, undiluted
- 1 large loaf of bread, crusty on the ouside, chewy on the inside
- 1 cup melted butter
- 1 package macaroni, large shells
- 1 - red onion, chopped
How To Make baked macaroni and cheese (southern)

Step 1Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Step 2Start the pasta boiling (do not rinse when done) Set aside.

Step 3In a large bowl, combine mayo, sour cream and soup.

Step 4In a separate bowl, chunk up the bread into bite-sized pieces and toss with the melted butter. Set aside.

Step 5Add hot pasta and sharp cheddar to the mayo mixture, stirring well. Spread into a greased casserole dish.

Step 6Top the macaroni and cheese with the buttered bread cubes.

Step 7Bake for about an hour or until the middle is bubbly. If the bread starts to get too golden before it's done baking, tent with foil.

Step 8Serve and enjoy! There will be plenty of leftovers, which is the best part!
