yo mama's crock pot creole

My family loves this slightly spicy version of a New Orleans style creole dish. I created this as a crock pot meal for busy weekdays. I have the rice steaming as the shrimp cooks and I prepare a green salad. Add some crusty bread for a special meal that my husband and kids love!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups chopped white onion
  • 2 cups chopped green bell pepper
  • 2 cups chopped celery
  • 28 oz cans petite or regular-sized diced tomatoes
  • 1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon ground thyme
  • 1 tablespoon creole seasoning
  • 13 ounces chopped smoked beef sausage or cajun style andouille sausage
  • 24 ounces fresh or thawed frozen medium or large peeled shrimp
  • 1 cup frozen okra (optional)
  • - hot pepper sauce

How To Make yo mama's crock pot creole

  • Step 1
    Combine first seven ingredients in crock pot and cook on low heat for 3 hours.
  • Step 2
    Stir in sausage. Add okra if desired. Stir well and cook for 2 1/2 more hours.
  • Step 3
    Add shrimp and stir well to combine. Cook an additional 30 minutes until shrimp turn pink and are cooked through.
  • Step 4
    Serve over steamed white rice with hot pepper sauce to taste.
