Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground chuck or round
  • 1 pound ground pork
  • 2 large onions chopped
  • 1 small red bell pepper chopped
  • 1/2 - green bell pepper chopped
  • 1 1/2 cups corn mesa flour
  • 1 tablespoon oregano
  • 3 tablespoons ground cumin
  • 1/3 cup chili powder
  • 2 tablespoons garlicpowder
  • 2 tablespoons salt
  • 1 tablespoon black pepper
  • 8 cups cold water
  • 1 cup day old black coffee
  • 1 - ( 28) ounces can tomato juice
  • 2- ( 8 ) ounces cans tomato sauce
  • 1- (28) ounce can chili beans
  • 1 pound smoked sausage diced up
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar

How To Make touchdown chili

  • Step 1
    COOK THE GROUND MEATS WITH THE ONIONS, BELL PEPPER, ADD A LITTLE SALT. DRAIN OFF FAT.
  • Step 2
    IN A LARGE DUTCH OVEN, MIX MESA FLOUR, OREGANO, CUMIN, CHILI POWDER, SALT, BLACK PEPPER, INTO THE COLD WATER AND COFFEE; MIX UNTIL THERE IS NO LUMPS. ADD TOMATO JUICE, TOMATO SAUCE AND CHILI BEANS; BRING TO A BOIL. ADD SMOKED SAUSAGE AND BROWN SUGAR. REDUCE HEAT TO A SIMMER FOR 4 HOURS, STIRRING OFTEN.
