the perfect chili

It's the perfect chili and that's because like most fabulous recipe creations out there it's from testing and using what you have on hand so on a cold afternoon I looked in my cabinets and refrigerator for what I had on hand and WOW WOW WOW that is all I have to say about that! :)

Ingredients

  • 1 package johnsonville mild italian sausage(out of the casing)
  • 1 1/2 pounds ground turkey
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 1/2 cups yellow onion chopped
  • 1 1/2 cups red bell pepper chopped
  • 1 - chili pepper chopped (seeds removed)
  • 1 - jalapeno pepper chopped( seeds removed)
  • 56 ounces canned crushed tomatoes
  • 6 ounces can tomato paste
  • 15 1/2 ounces can spicy chili beans
  • 1/2 cup cilantro chopped
  • 3 - garlic cloves minced
  • 1 - envelope dry onion soup mix
  • 1/2 cup regular beer
  • 8 ounces can crushed pineapple drained
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/4 cup chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 3 cups sharp cheddar shredded cheese 2% reduced fat

How To Make the perfect chili

  • Step 1
    On medium high heat in a large deep pot add oil, sausage and ground turkey and cook until no longer pink about 8 minutes. Make sure to take a spoon and break the meat up into small pieces while it's cooking.
  • Step 2
    Next add remaining ingredients mix until well incorporated. Lower heat to low and cover and simmer 2 hours. while cooking mix chili every 15 minutes. Serve hot and top with shredded cheese.
