steak and bean stew (nyama ne nyemba)
My son was an exchange student in Zimbabwe. Since then, I've been on the look-out for authentic Zimbabwean recipes. This comes from A Taste of Africa. I no longer have the book, but if I run into the Sadza recipe, I'll post that too! NOTE: you may want to go easy on the curry powder. You can always add more later!

Ingredients
- 3 medium onions, thinly sliced
- 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 2 pounds shoulder steak or spare ribs, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, crushed
- 1 medium jalepeño pepper, chopped (or other hot paper)
- 3 tablespoons curry powder
- 2 medium tomatoes, diced (canned, equivalent amount)
- 2 pounds kidney beans, cooked or 2 cans
- - salt and pepper to taste
- 1 medium lemon, jucied
How To Make steak and bean stew (nyama ne nyemba)

Step 1In a stew pot, brown the onions in the oil until golden. Add meat and brown over medium heat for about 5 minutes, stirring constantly.

Step 2Lower hear and cook for 15-20 minutes. Add garlic, pepper and curry powder, cook for about 3 minutes. Stir in tomatoes and cook for another 3 minutes.

Step 3Season to taste, stir in beans and simmer another 15 minutes.

Step 4In serving bowl, drizzle with lemon juice. Serve with rice, or Sadza dumpling if you want to be authentic!
