This brand-new meat roll recipe I created is based on Grill Mates' smokehouse maple seasoning. It's great with a side of potatoes au gratin, lettuce-only salad, and some dinner rolls.

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon margarine
  • 1 medium purple onion, peeled and chopped
  • 1 large carrot, diced
  • 1 medium yellow bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 medium red bell pepper, sliced
  • 4 tablespoons smokehouse maple seasoning, divided
  • 2 tablespoons dark brown sugar, divided
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 pound ground pork
  • 1 cup Panko bread crumbs
  • 3 eggs,beaten
  • 1 packet dry onion soup mix
  • 3/4 cup steak sauce
  • 3/4 cup cane syrup
  • 8 slices deli honey ham
  • 8 ounces sharp cheddar cheese, shredded

How To Make smokehouse maple meat roll

  • Step 1
    Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Coat the bottom of a baking sheet with cooking spray.
  • Step 2
    Heat olive oil and margarine in a large, deep skillet over medium heat. Add chopped purple onion, diced carrots, sliced yellow and red bell peppers. Cook and saute for 4 minutes or until tender.
  • Step 3
    Season with 2 tablespoons of smokehouse maple seasoning and 1 tablespoon brown sugar. Remove from heat and set aside.
  • Step 4
    In a large bowl, combine ground beef, ground pork, bread crumbs, beaten eggs, onion soup mix, steak sauce, cane syrup, and remaining smokehouse maple seasoning; mix well for 2 minutes.
  • Step 5
    Flatten out the meat into a large square on wax paper. Place the deli ham slices on top of the meat. Season with the remaining brown sugar. Spoon the sauteed veggies mixture over the top of the ham slices.
  • Step 6
    Sprinkle with shredded sharp cheddar cheese over the top.
  • Step 7
    Using the wax paper, roll the meat jelly roll style, sealing the edges. Place seam side down on a greased baking sheet.
  • Step 8
    Bake at 350 degrees for about 45 minutes.
