I have made this many times the original way, with fresh green beans and potatoes. I came up with this method for a quick and delicious meal. It's as good as the original recipe.

prep time 15 Min
cook time 30 Min
method Stove Top
yield 4-6 serving(s)

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 - large ham steak, precooked
  • 2 - 32 oz. cans of cut green beans (undrained)
  • 2 cans whole potatoes, drained
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • - pepper to taste
  • 3 - cubes of chicken bouillion
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon butter, optional

How To Make quick & economical green beans, ham, potatoes

  • Step 1
In skillet melt a tablespoon of butter and brown the hamsteak on both sides. Cut in cubes.
  • Step 2
In a large pot, put undrained cans of green beans, canned potatoes (drained), onion, and ham cubes. Add chicken bouillion cubes and pepper. Cover pot and simmer at least 30 minutes.
  • Step 3
Note: Don't add salt until you taste, since the bouillion cubes are salty. I also add a tablespoon of butter to the pot while it simmers. Let simmer as long as possible, so that the beans get more tender and consume the flavor of the ham.
