nana's gumbo
I had an aunt who made this every summer when I was learning to cook. It took several attempts for my husband to accept it.

Ingredients
- 3 cups okra
- 2 1/2 cups tomatoes, chopped
- 1 cup frozen onions
- 1 teaspoon garlic finely minced
- 1/4 cup bacon grease
- 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tablespoons Old Bay Seasoning
- 6-8 cups rice, cooked and hot
How To Make nana's gumbo

Step 1Melt 1/4 cup bacon grease in large cast iron skillet. Saute minced garlic and onion in grease until translucent. Do NOT drain.

Step 2Chop okra into 1/4 inch pieces. Add okra. Use fresh whenever possible. Stir into onion & garlic and let cook 5-6 minutes.

Step 3Chop or dice tomatoes into small pieces. Add to okra in skillet. Mix well & bring to a rolling boil.

Step 4Add seasonings & spices. Reduce heat and let simmer for 30-45 minutes or until most liquid is gone.

Step 5Serve over rice. OPTIONAL: add meatballs or kielbasa sausage pieces to make a meal.
