This delicious savory-sweet chop suey with surprise pasta is a hit at any family meal!

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 pounds boneless pork cubed
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 cup celery sliced diagonally
  • 1 large sweet onion sliced thinly
  • 8 ounces can water chestnuts drained
  • 16 ounces canned bean sprouts drained or 8 oz canned baby corn drained
  • 8 ounces can of bamboo shoots drained
  • 8 ounces box of sliced baby bella mushrooms
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 3/4 cup soy sauce
  • 3/4 cup chicken broth
  • 6 tablespoons water
  • 3 tablespoons corn starch
  • sugar to taste
  • 1 can crunchy chow mein noodles
  • 4 ounces precooked spaghetti (one quarter box)

How To Make mouthwatering chop suey surprise!

  • Step 1
    Precook spaghetti and drain. Set aside in a covered Tupperware.
  • Step 2
    Add one tablespoon of vegetable oil to a large fry pan. Fry up the pork cubes until browned. This will take 10-15 minutes. Remove the pork and juices from pan and set aside.
  • Step 3
    Add one tablespoon of vegetable oil to hot pan. Add the celery, onions and red pepper flakes to the pan. Saute for about 10 minutes until the mushrooms and softened.
  • Step 4
    Stir in the chicken broth, bamboo shoots, bean sprouts (or baby corn if you used that instead), and water chestnuts to the pan, and bring to a simmer. Simmer for 10 minutes.
  • Step 5
    Stir the soy sauce and the previously browned pork to the pan. Add a lid to the pan and simmer for another 10 minutes.
  • Step 6
    Mix the water and cornstarch together in a small bowl until smooth. Slowly add this mixture to the cooking pan and stir until the sauce begins to thicken.
  • Step 7
    Slowly stir in small amounts of artificial sweetener or sugar to the thickened sauce until it has a slightly sweet taste.
  • Step 8
    Add the pre-cooked spaghetti noodles to the pan and stir well.
  • Step 9
    Serve over crunchy canned Chinese noodles.
