Ingredients

  • 1 pound good bacon, finely chopped
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 pounds cabbage, finely diced
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • - 2 small pinches of sugar

How To Make fried cabbage with bacon and onion

  • Step 1
Fry bacon in large fry pan until it is crisp and brown. Drain and set aside. Keep bacon drippings to use later.
  • Step 2
With adequate amount of bacon drippings in fry pan (about 1 cup), Add onion to bacon drippings and stir until translucent. ADD: Chopped cabbage, pepper flakes, salt, and black pepper. Stirring until all of cabbage is coated, more drippings may be necessary to prevent sticking. ADD: Crumbled bacon bits, pinches of sugar (optional) but the sugar brings out the flavor. COVER and cook over LOW heat until cabbage is tender.
