Super tasty and quick to make, this is perfect as a weeknight meal or when time is in short supply.

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon canola oil
  • 1 cup green cabbage, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup red cabbage, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup carrots, julienned
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1/2 tablespoon Chinese brown sugar (substitute brown sugar)
  • 1 pound lean ground pork
  • 4 large thinly sliced green onions, whites and greens separated
  • 2 cloves garlic (large), pressed
  • 1 tablespoon ginger, minced
  • 1/4 teaspoon Chinese 5 spice
  • freshly ground mixed peppercorns, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons Hoisin sauce
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 3 cups cooked rice
  • 1 tablespoon fresh chopped cilantro, for garnish
  • 1 tablespoon toasted sesame seeds, for garnish

How To Make easy egg rolls in a bowl

  • Step 1
    In a large skillet over medium heat, add canola oil and when hot, add both cabbage and carrots; sauté for 2 minutes.
  • Step 2
    Add soy sauce and brown sugar; cook for 2 minutes.
  • Step 3
    Using a slotted spoon, transfer the cabbage mixture to a large bowl and set aside.
  • Step 4
    Add ground pork to the skillet and cook halfway, breaking down the meat into small pieces - if not using lean, drain any extra fat.
  • Step 5
    Add white parts of green onions, garlic, ginger, Chinese 5 Spice, and freshly ground mixed peppercorns; cook until the meat is done.
  • Step 6
    Add Hoisin sauce, oyster sauce, and sesame oil. Mix well, making sure the meat is well-coated before returning the cabbage mixture. Cook for 1 minute 30 seconds to 2 minutes.
  • Step 7
    Spoon mixture into warm bowls over cooked rice and garnish with green parts of green onions, cilantro, and toasted sesame seeds.
