My family loves chili year round so I make many variations of the dish. This version turned out to be everyones favorite and it also won third place in a chili cook off.

  • 1 lb
    ground beef
  • 1 lb
    ground italian sausage
  • 1 tsp
    salt and pepper
  • 1 tsp
    cayenne pepper
  • 1 c
    diced onion
  • 1 clove
    diced garlic
  • 1 c
    diced red bell pepper
  • 1 c
    diced green bell pepper
  • 2 can(s)
    tomato sauce
  • 1 can(s)
    crushed tomatoes
  • 1 can(s)
    fired roasted diced tomato with garlic
  • 1 pkg
    chili seasoning
  • 1 can(s)
    diced japelenos
  • 1 tsp
    tabasco sauce
  • 1 can(s)
    seasoned kidney beans
  • 1 can(s)
    diced green chiles

How to Make Dad's Chili


  1. Mix salt, pepper, and cayenne in small bowl.
  2. Rub on both sides of ground meats, set aside for 15 minutes.
  3. In a large pot over medium heat, brown the meat; drain.
  4. Add remaining ingredients, except the beans, and simmer for 1 hour.
  5. Add the beans and continue to cook for 20 minutes.
  6. Note: For a less spicy chili, reduce the amount of cayenne pepper.
