chilli
(1 RATING)
Chilli is a big deal in my family ;) My parents were always competing to make the best, so after years of experimenting, I came up with this. I've NEVER written down a recipe before, so sorry if it seems amateur lol. I've been told that this is some of the best chili ever. I like mine with shredded cheese, sour cream and jiffy corn bread yumyum

Ingredients
- 1/2 pound pinto beans, dried
- 4 medium sweet onions
- 1-2 large green peppers
- 1-2 large sweet red, yellow or orange peppers
- 2 packages kroger brand mild chilli seasoning
- 16 oz cans light red kidney bean
- 16 oz cans dark red kidney beans
- 24 oz cans whole tomatoes
- 1-2 pound hamburger
How To Make chilli
-
Step 1Put pinto beans in a large pot. Cover with water, about half the pot full. Add 1 sliced onion. Boil approx. 1 hour, until beans are soft. Add another onion half way through. Add water as needed, but only enough to keep beans from burning.
-
Step 2Place peppers on a foil lined cookie sheet. Place in oven on broil until skin starts to blacken. Flip peppers until evenly black.
-
Step 3After pinto beans are soft, add 1 more onion, seasoning mix, light and dark red kidney beans and the juice from canned tomatoes. Continue to cook approx 30 - 45 mins.
-
Step 4Brown hamburger, drain, add to chili along with another onion.
-
Step 5Peppers should be easy to peel now. Cut pepper open over the pot so the juice goes into chili. Peel off skin and discard the skin. Cut peppers into large chunks. Add peppers and whole tomatoes to chili. Cook about 10-15 mins. Let stand to thicken, then serve.
