Ingredients
- 1 medium onion chopped
- 1 medium tomato chopped
- 1 inch piece of ginger
- 6 cloves garlic
- 1 small green chili seeded and chopped
- 1/2 cup tomato sauce
- 3 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 bay leaves
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon each chili powder, ground coriander, & garam masala
- 1/2 teaspoon each turmeric powder and fenugreek powder
- 15 ounces can of chickpeas
- salt to taste
- cilantro for garnish
- basmati rice and naan for serving
How To Make chana masala

Step 1Place the onion, tomato, ginger, garlic and green chili pepper into a food processor. Process until well incorporated. Remove and stir in the tomato sauce.

Step 2Heat the olive oil in a large skillet. Add the bay leaves and cook 30 seconds. Add the tomato sauce mixture and cook until the oil begins to separate from the mixture. Add all the seasonings and cook 3 minutes. Add the can of undrained chickpeas. Simmer 5 minutes. Taste and adjust for salt. Serve garnished with cilantro.
