bob's homemade chili

This chili is made for a crowd. It will make about 7 to 8 quarts. When made on the open pit, and a few friends are around, it is a great time.

Ingredients

  • 5 pounds ground beef
  • 1 pound dried pinto beans
  • 5 quarts homemade tomatoes, un-drained
  • 1 quart homemade tomato juice
  • 1 (6-oz) can tomato paste
  • 1 cup water
  • 3 teaspoons beef granules
  • 3 large yellow onions, chopped
  • 8 to 10 tablespoons chili powder
  • 2 tablespoons ground cumin
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons oregano, dried
  • 4 to 5 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons lime juice
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons salt
  • 1 tablespoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon ground sweet paprika
  • 2 to 3 teaspoons red pepper flakes
  • 1 to 2 medium jalapeno peppers, finely chopped (optional)

How To Make bob's homemade chili

  • Step 1
    Brown beef, in a large pot, with onions and garlic until beef is no longer pink. Drain. Cook pinto beans about halfway, drained. Put cooked beef, onions and garlic in a 5 gallon pot or larger. Place pot on burner or outside fire pit. Add remaining ingredients except beans and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and cover. Simmer for about 1 hour, add pinto beans and continue to simmer about 2 hours longer or until you reach consistency you want.
