NOTE: I HAVE ALSO LISTED THE QUANTITIES FOR MAKING A MUCH SMALLER BATCH, SINCE IF YOU ARE LIKE ME, THIS WON'T BE A HEAVILY USED ITEM IN YOUR KITCHEN. This is a spice mix traditionally used in Ethopian cooking. It is a very versatile mixture of spices, however, that can be used in other cuisines. Thanks to the Whole Food Market kitchen staff for sharing their recipe.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup sweet paprika
  • 1/4 cup ground black pepper
  • 1/4 cup ground cardamom
  • 1/4 cup ground coriander
  • 1/8 cup cayenne pepper
  • 1/4 cup ground cloves
  • 1/4 cup ground ginger
  • 2 tablespoons allspice
  • 1 tablespoon nutmeg
  • 1/8 cup fenugeek (optional)

How To Make berbere spice mix homemade (sallye))

  • Step 1
    Place all items in large mixing bowl and whisk briskly until well blended. This spice mix will keep indefinitely in an airtight container if kept in fridge.

    NOTE: HERE ARE THE MEASUREMENTS FOR A SMALLER BATCH: 2 tablespoons sweet paprika 1 tablespoon sea salt 1 tablespoon ground black pepper 1 tablespoon ground cardamom 1 tablespoon ground coriander 2 teaspoons cayenne pepper 2 teaspoons fenugreek 1 tablespon ground cloves 1 tablespoon ginger pinch of allspice pinch of nutmeg
