We love the interesting flavors in this dish. A green vegetable makes a complimentary side. Something like fresh brussel sprouts, green beans, or asparagus.

Ingredients For apples sweet onion and sausage

  • 2 Tbsp
    light olive oil
  • 4
    links of mild italian sausage
  • 1 lg
sweet onion, cut through the root end, and make slivered slices
  • salt
    lightly, to taste
  • 1 sprig
    fresh rosemary
  • 2 Tbsp
    apple cider vinegar
  • 2
golden delicious apples, cored and cut into wedges
  • 1 c
    water, divided

How To Make apples sweet onion and sausage

  • 1
Heat a 10-inch skillet over medium heat, add the oil. When the oil is hot, add the sausages and brown them all over. That takes about 7 minutes.
  • 2
Add the sliced onions, season lightly with salt, and give it a stir. Brown the onions, stirring occasionally, about 5 minutes or so.
  • 3
Add the sprig of rosemary, 1/2 cup of water, and the apple cider vinegar. Bring to a simmer, cover, and cook until the onions are wilted, about another 5 minutes.
  • 4
Add the sliced apples (I slice them just prior to adding them to the pan, so they don't turn brown.) Add the remaining 1/2 cup of water. Bring to a simmer, replace the lid, but don't put it on tight, leave it slightly cocked, and cook until the apples are tender, about 15 minutes.
  • 5
Uncover the pan, and continue to simmer until the juices reduce. Another 5 minutes. Remove the stem from the rosemary. Give a stir, and place in a serving dish!
  • Ready to serve!
