Apple Kraut Bratwurst

    bratwurst, (about 1 1/4 lbs)
  • 1 1/2 c
  • 2 Tbsp
    butter, divided
  • 2 c
  • 1 bag
    (3 oz) sweet dried apple chips
  • 1/4 c
    light brown sugar
  • 1/2 c
    red wine
  • 1/8 tsp
  • 1/2 tsp
    whole caraway seed

How To Make

    Place bratwurst, water, and 1 tablespoon of the butter in large saucepan on medium high. Bring to boil and cook 10-12 minutes, turning occasionally, until water evaporated and bratwurst begin to brown.

    While brats cook, rinse sauerkraut under cool running water 30-40 seconds (to reduce tartness); drain well. Crush apple chips, place in microwave safe bowl. Stir in sauerkraut and brown sugar, cover.

    Cook sauerkraut mixture in microwave on HIGH 6 minutes, stirring occasionally, or until thoroughly heated. Add remaining 1 tablespoon butter, wine and sauerkraut mixture to bratwurst; sprinkle with pepper and caraway seeds. Cover and cook 6-8 more minutes, stirring occasionally, or untl internal temperature of bratwurst reaches 160 degrees. Use a meat thermometer to accurately ensure doneness. Serve.
