Ingredients For taco casserole

  • 1 lb
    ground beef seasoning
  • 1 md
    onion, chopped
  • 1 c
    taco sauce
  • 3/4 c
    water
  • 1 can
    diced green chiles (about 4 oz.)
  • 1 can
    black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 pkg
    taco seasoning mix
  • 1 pkg
    yellow taco shells (about 12 shells), broken and divided
  • 2 c
    shredded mexican-style cheese
  • 2
    green onions, sliced (optional)
  • salt and pepper
  • sour cream (optional)
  • diced tomatoes (optional)
  • shredded lettuce (optional)

How To Make taco casserole

    Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease an 11x7-inch baking dish.

    Cook beef and onion until beef is browned. Season the beef with salt and pepper, optional. Drain the meat mixture and stir in the taco sauce, water, chiles, beans, and seasoning mix. Stir well. Cook over low heat for 3 to 4 minutes.

    Layer half of the broken shells on the bottom of the prepared baking dish. Cover with half of the meat mixture; sprinkle with 1 cup of cheese. Repeat with remaining ingredients.

    Bake for 20 or 25 minutes or until bubbly and cheese has melted. Garnish with sliced green onions, additional cheese, diced tomatoes, shredded lettuce or sour cream.
