Old El Paso use to make a wonderful refried beans with sausage. Sadly they stopped making it. We used it with every Mexican meal as a side, on nachos, on burritos, with chips for bean dip...a lot..We experimented around with several other brands, but none were as good. So, here is what we came up with through trial and error. You could use chorizo sausage, but we found it to be too greasy and not quiet the right flavor.

Ingredients

  • 1 can re fried beans (32 oz)
  • 1 slice jimmy dean hot breakfast sausage (about 1 1/2 oz)

How To Make kicked up refried beans

  • Step 1
n a sauce pan, over medium-low heat, crumble-cook the sausage. When it is no longer pink, add the re fried beans and stir well. Lower the heat to a simmer and let simmer for about an hour. Stir every 10 minutes or so, otherwise the beans will burn.
  • Step 2
When we serve this as a bean dip, we usually put it in an oven proof dish and smother it with cheese. Bake for a few minutes, about 10 or so, until the cheese melts. Then serve sour cream and chips with. MMMMM
