This Recipe is by far the best I've tried. My mom always made the topping with just ketchup and mustard with brown sugar. I added a few more items and it was a hit.

  • 2 lb
    ground beef
  • 1 Tbsp
    olive oil
  • 1
    onion ' finally diced
  • 3
    garlic cloves minced
  • 2
    torta bread, cubed
  • 1/2 c
  • 1/4 c
    chopped parsley
  • 2-3 Tbsp
    diced red bell pepper
  • 2
  • Dash
    worcestershire sauce
  • To Taste
    salt and pepper
  • 1 c
    parmesan cheese or parmiggiano/reggiano cheese

  • 3/4 c
  • 2 Tbsp
    tomato paste
  • 1/4 c
    brown sugar
  • 1 tsp
    dried mustard
  • 1 tsp
    smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp
    garlic powder
  • 1 tsp
    onion powder

How to Make Meatloaf


  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees
  2. Sautee the onion, red bell pepper and minced garlic in olive oil on medium heat until soft approximately 6 min. Cool Completely.
  3. Add the cubed bread in a bowl and pour the milk over it. Let sit for a few minutes allowing the bread to soak up the milk.
  4. In a large bowl combine the beef, milk soaked bread, the cooked onion and garlic, parsley, parmiggiano cheese, worchestershire sauce, eggs, salt and pepper. Mix until well combined not over mixing.
  5. Place a cooling rack over a baking sheet ( or use a broiler pan) Place the meatloaf onto it and set aside.
  6. In a small bowl ' mix together all of the ingredients for the topping. Smear half of it over the top and reserve the rest.
  7. Bake the meatloaf for 50 minutes then smear the rest of the sauce on top and put it back in the overn for another 15 min.
