My husband John came up with this sauce and it makes the meatloaf juicy & delicious.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 c
    brown sugar, lightly packed
  • 1/2 c
    ketchup
  • 1/2 lb
    ground beef, lean (or beef/pork[/veal] meatloaf mix)
  • 1/4 c
    milk
  • 2
    eggs
  • 1 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 1/4 tsp
    black pepper, ground
  • 1 small
    onion, chopped
  • 1/4 tsp
    ginger, ground
  • 3/4 c
    saltine cracker crumbs, finely crushed
  • 3-4 slice
    bacon (optional)

How to Make Brown Sugar Meatloaf (Piggie Optional)

Step-by-Step

  1. Preheat oven to 350F. Lightly grease or spray a 5x9” loaf pan.
  2. Line the bottom of the pan with bacon strips, if using. Press the brown sugar into the bottom of the pan & spread the ketchup over the sugar.
  3. In a mixing bowl, mix thoroughly all remaining ingredients & shape into a loaf. Place on top of the ketchup/sugar/bacon.
  4. Bake in preheated oven for 1 hour or until juices run clear.
  5. Let pan rest for 5 minutes. Flip pan over onto a platter so the bacon/ketchup is on top of meatloaf. Slice & serve.
