I have tried to cook a decent deer roast so many times thru the years, but never could cook one that wasn't tough or dried out. Well, this recipe is awesome and I have to say thanks to PJ who proved to me you can cook a great edible deer roast.

Slow Cooker Crock Pot


  • 1-2 lb
    vension roast
  • 1 Tbsp
    kitchen bouquet
  • 2 pkg
    lipton onion soup mix
  • 1/2 stick
  • 3 Tbsp
    olive oil
  • 1 medium
    onion chopped
  • 1 stalk(s)
    celery chopped
  • 2 bag(s)
    small baby carrot
  • 10 medium
    fingerlet potato cut in 1/2 (these are small, you can use whatever )

How to Make Vension Roast


  1. Rub roast down with kitchen bouquet and sprinkle 1/2 package of Lipton Onion Soup. You can add your on seasoning if you like at this point.
  2. Heat 1/4 of stick of butter & add olive oil to melted butter in hot skillet. Sear every side and ends of roast in hot skillet. Deglaze with water or dry red wine.
  3. In crock pot (turn on low) pour the other 1/2 package of L.O.S.M. in the bottom add roast and liquid from skillet.
  4. Add chopped onion, celery, carrots, and potato in this order. Add the other package of L.O.S.M., and cover in water. Put lid on and cook for 6 to 8 hours. Serve over rice and hot rolls, what a nice dinner to come home to after work.
