I have tried to cook a decent deer roast so many times thru the years, but never could cook one that wasn't tough or dried out. Well, this recipe is awesome and I have to say thanks to PJ who proved to me you can cook a great edible deer roast.

prep time 20 Min
cook time 6 Hr
method Slow Cooker Crock Pot
yield 6-8 serving(s)

Ingredients

  • 1-2 pound vension roast
  • 1 tablespoon kitchen bouquet
  • 2 packages lipton onion soup mix
  • 1/2 stick butter
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 medium onion chopped
  • 1 stalk celery chopped
  • 2 bags small baby carrot
  • 10 medium fingerlet potato cut in 1/2 (these are small, you can use whatever )

How To Make vension roast

  • Step 1
Rub roast down with kitchen bouquet and sprinkle 1/2 package of Lipton Onion Soup. You can add your on seasoning if you like at this point.
  • Step 2
Heat 1/4 of stick of butter & add olive oil to melted butter in hot skillet. Sear every side and ends of roast in hot skillet. Deglaze with water or dry red wine.
  • Step 3
In crock pot (turn on low) pour the other 1/2 package of L.O.S.M. in the bottom add roast and liquid from skillet.
  • Step 4
Add chopped onion, celery, carrots, and potato in this order. Add the other package of L.O.S.M., and cover in water. Put lid on and cook for 6 to 8 hours. Serve over rice and hot rolls, what a nice dinner to come home to after work.
