Ingredients

  • 4 pounds bone in pork shoulder roast, trimmed
  • 1 medium yellow onion, diced
  • 3/4 cup tomato based salsa, medium heat
  • 1/3 cup cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons cider vinegar
  • 1/8 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cumin
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 2 teaspoons salt, divided
  • 3 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 12-16 - buns

How To Make slow cooker pulled pork

  • Step 1
    In a 4 qt. slow cooker, combine onion, salsa, 1/3 cup vinegar, brown sugar, cumin, chili powder and 1 tsp salt
  • Step 2
    Add the pork shoulder and turn to coat.
  • Step 3
    Cover and cook until the shoulder until it is done and tender 5-6 hours on high.
  • Step 4
    Transfer the pork to a cutting board. With 2 forks, shred the pork. Discard the bone and fat.
  • Step 5
    Put 1 cup of the juice from the cooker and onions into a bowl.
  • Step 6
    Whisk in the tomato paste and 1 tsp. salt.
  • Step 7
    Add the pulled pork and stir to combine.
  • Step 8
    Serve on toasted buns.
