I made this delicious pork pie years ago for a "around the world " party I gave. Everyone enjoyed it,years later people tell me they loved that pie! I saw someone had requested a recipe for Tourtiere and I know this is a good one!

Ingredients

  • - 1 lb ground pork
  • - 1/2 lb ground veal
  • - 6 slices bacon,cut up
  • - 1/2 c chopped onion
  • - 1/2 c chopped celery
  • - 1 clove garlic,minced
  • - 2 t.dried sage,crushed
  • - 1/4 t. salt
  • - 1/4 t. pepper
  • - 1 1/4 c water
  • - 2 t. cornstarch

How To Make tourtiere

  • Step 1
    In dutch oven brown meats.Drain off fat.Stir in chopped onions,celery,garlic,sage,salt and pepper.Stir in 1 c water;bring to boiling. Reduce heat and simmer,covered 10-15 mins or till onion is tender,stirring frequently. Combine cornstarch and 1/4 c water.Add to hot mixture cooking and stirring till thickened and bubbly.Cook and stir 1-2 mins more.Remove pan from heat;cool slightly.Place pastry in 9 inch pie plate,add meat mixture place 2nd pastry atop filling.Seal and flute edges,cut slits make cut outs if desired.Bake 400 deg 25 mins or till golden brown.Let stand 15 mins.before serving.
