I tweaked the sauce on this recipe and it is so good I could drink it straight from the cup. Pork is succulent and flavorful.

Ingredients

  • 1/8 cup dark soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup regular soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup hoisin sauce
  • 1/2 cup mirin
  • 1/8 cup xiao hsing or shaoxing rice wine
  • 1 teaspoon chinese five spice powder
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • - 1 inch piece ginger grated
  • 1/2 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon chinese black vinegar or rice wine vinegar
  • 2 pounds pork butt roast
  • 1/4 cup scallions chopped for garnish

How To Make char siu (chinese bbq pork) my way

  • Step 1
    Mix all ingredients except pork and scallions together. Marinate the pork overnight.
  • Step 2
    Remove pork from marinade and place in roasting pan. Baste with marinade and roast at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.
  • Step 3
    Flip roast over and baste with marinade and roast another 30 minutes.
  • Step 4
    Finish under broiler for 2 minutes each side. Let rest 10 minutes
