I tweaked the sauce on this recipe and it is so good I could drink it straight from the cup. Pork is succulent and flavorful.

1/8 c
dark soy sauce
1/4 c
regular soy sauce
1/4 c
hoisin sauce
1/2 c
1/8 c
xiao hsing or shaoxing rice wine
1 tsp
chinese five spice powder
3 clove
garlic minced
1 inch piece ginger grated
1/2 tsp
sesame oil
1/2 tsp
chinese black vinegar or rice wine vinegar
2 lb
pork butt roast
1/4 c
scallions chopped for garnish

How to Make Char Siu (Chinese BBQ Pork) my way


  • 1Mix all ingredients except pork and scallions together. Marinate the pork overnight.
  • 2Remove pork from marinade and place in roasting pan. Baste with marinade and roast at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.
  • 3Flip roast over and baste with marinade and roast another 30 minutes.
  • 4Finish under broiler for 2 minutes each side.
    Let rest 10 minutes
