Ingredients

  • 2/3 cup navy beans, dried
  • 1 package smoked sausage, i used one with diced jalapeno
  • 1/2 medium onion, diced
  • 1 medium hatch pepper, seeded and diced (you can use bell for less heat)

  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 1/4 teaspoon liquid smoke flavoring
  • 1 tablespoon frank's wing sauce
  • 4 slices cooked and diced maple smoked bacon
  • 1/4 cup french fried onions

How To Make apple butter bbq baked beans with sausage

  • Step 1
    In a large dutch oven, soak beans for at least 4 hours. Cook on medium low heat for 35 to 40 minutes - until tender.
  • Step 2
    In a 2 cup measuring cup add bbq sauce, mustard, liquid smoke, and wing sauce. Add water to bring it to 2 cups of liquid. Stir to combine.
  • Step 3
    In a medium skillet on medium low heat add 2 tablespoons vegetable oil. Add smoked sausage cut side down. Cook until browned.
  • Step 4
    Turn sausage and add onions, and hatch pepper. Cook until onions are tender.
  • Step 5
    In a large bowl combine cooked sausage and veggies, beans, and bbq sauce mixture.
  • Step 6
    Pour into a 8X8 baking dish.
  • Step 7
    Bake at 350 degrees uncovered for about an hour or until sauce has thickened.
  • Step 8
    Top with cooked bacon and french fried onions.
