~spaghetti sauce ~

My family loves my spaghetti sauce. Hope you try it sometime. Can also be made without the meat and mushrooms to make a great pizza sauce. Enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons each - butter & olive oil
  • 6 - 8 cloves garlic,minced
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 1/2 pound sliced mushrooms -optional
  • 3/4 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 pound sweet ialian sausage
  • 1 - 15 ounces tomato sauce
  • 2 - 29 ounces cans - san marzano tomatoes, crushed with hands - plus juice
  • 1 - bay leaf
  • 1 tablespoon italian seasoning
  • 1/8 cup red wine
  • red pepper - flakes - optional
  • salt - & pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar - if bitter at the end
  • if - you have some fresh basil, add that too. i love it, but family doesn't so didn't add - chopped or torn
  • other - additions i like, pepperoni, fresh parmesan cheese, black olives, green pepper

How To Make ~spaghetti sauce ~

  • Step 1
    Over medium heat in a dutch oven, add oil and butter. Once butter is melted and frothy add the onion and mushrooms. Cook until onion is translucent and mushrooms have started browning. Add the sausage and ground beef and pull apart into pieces with a spatula as it cooks. Add garlic once meat is almost finished cooking, stir. Cook another couple minutes, then add all remaining ingredients. Stir well to combine and bring to a boil. Reduce to simmer and continue cooking for 45 minutes to 1 hour. Remove bay leaf. Taste sauce, if any bitterness add the sugar. Also, add more salt & pepper if desired. Serve over your favorite pasta's.
