1Over medium heat in a dutch oven, add oil and butter. Once butter is melted and frothy add the onion and mushrooms. Cook until onion is translucent and mushrooms have started browning. Add the sausage and ground beef and pull apart into pieces with a spatula as it cooks. Add garlic once meat is almost finished cooking, stir. Cook another couple minutes, then add all remaining ingredients. Stir well to combine and bring to a boil. Reduce to simmer and continue cooking for 45 minutes to 1 hour. Remove bay leaf. Taste sauce, if any bitterness add the sugar. Also, add more salt & pepper if desired.
