pizza casserole
We found this recipe in a kid's cookbook years ago. We altered it as our children got older. It is for kids both the young and old at heart.
Blue Ribbon Recipe
A quick, easy, and delicious casserole recipe all busy cooks should have in their recipe box. Basically, whatever you love on your pizza you can include in this casserole. So, it can be easy or elaborate - whatever you have time for. In the Test Kitchen, we used all the suggested veggies and loved it. The mixture of ground meat and pork really adds a different flavor. Pepperoni mixed in gives the casserole a little zip. Mozzarella cheese bakes to bubbly perfection. We opted to add mini pepperoni on top to make the casserole pretty, but that step is not needed. Super yummy!

Ingredients
- 1 package extra wide egg noodles (16oz); cooked and drainded
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 pound bulk sausage (I use pork, can use Italian)
- 1 package pepperoni
- 2 jars pizza sauce (30 ounce total)
- 2-4 cups mozzarella cheese (depending on how cheesy you want it)
- 1 package mushrooms (sliced) (optional)
- 1 - bell pepper-chopped (optional)
- 1 - small onion-chopped (optional)
- - salt and pepper to taste
- 1-2 teaspoon sugar (optional, I use to make sauce less acidic)
How To Make pizza casserole
-
Step 1Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
-
Step 2Cook noodles according to package directions.
-
Step 3While noodles are cooking, brown sausage and hamburger in a pan.
-
Step 4Add pepperoni the last few minutes of cooking the hamburger/sausage. Drain the grease from the meat.
-
Step 5Also while noodles are cooking, saute vegetables of choice (if any) to add to casserole.
-
Step 6Add pizza sauce to the meat mixture.
-
Step 7Season with salt pepper and sugar.
-
Step 8Add vegetables and warm for about 5 minutes.
-
Step 9Toss noodles into the meat/sauce mixture.
-
Step 10Spray a non-stick cooking spray into a 9x13 casserole dish.
-
Step 11Pour the mixture into the dish. Top with enough mozzarella cheese to cover the casserole. [The more cheese the better :-)!!]
-
Step 12Bake for 20-30 minutes at 350 (until bubbly).
-
Step 13You can make this as simple or as complex as you desire. IF you go for the simpler route (noodles, hamburger, pepperoni and sauce) only need 1 jar sauce and 8 oz of noodles. If you go for the heartier version (all meats and veggies), use 2 jars sauce and 16 oz noodles.
