mom's goulash

I have updated this a bit. As I was growing up this was very economical for our struggling little family. You can add or subtract as your personal taste dictates, but I would try it this way first, and then adjust the next batch.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 pound ground turkey
  • 1/2 pound ground beef (97% lean)
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 1/2 medium bell pepper, diced [optional]
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes [optional]
  • 1 tablespoon sugar or substitute
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt [or to taste]
  • 2 cans condenced tomato soup
  • 1 can stewed tomatoes, diced
  • 1 can tomato sauce
  • 2-4 tablespoons butter/margerine
  • 4 ounces elbow macaroni

How To Make mom's goulash

  • Step 1
    Brown meat in large skillet over medium heat with 2-4 tablespoons butter or margerine, diced onion & bell pepper.
  • Step 2
    Add red pepper flakes, sugar and salt; stir and continue to cook until onion is tender and meat is browned.
  • Step 3
    Add remaining ingredients, except macaroni; cover and allow to simmer over medium-low heat.
  • Step 4
    Cook pasta according to package directions; drain well. Add to sauce & mix well. Serve with a sprinkle of parmesan cheese.
