Marinara Sauce, Basic and Easy

Ingredients

3tbsp. oil
-
1large onion, chopped
-
2heaping tsp. garlic powder
-
128 oz, can whole peeled tomatoes with juice
-
28 oz. cans tomato sauce
-
2tsp. dried oregano
-
2tsp. dried basil
-
2whole bay leaves
-
1tbsp. sugar
-
·salt and pepper to taste
How to Make Marinara Sauce, Basic and Easy
- Over medium heat, heat oil in a large skillet and add onion, and garlic powder. Saute for 3 to 5 minutes until onions begin to appear translucent. Add the tomatoes and tomato sauce; stir. Add the herbs and bay leaves. Sprinkle in sugar, salt and pepper. Lower heat and continue to simmer, uncovered, for about 20 to 30 minutes. Stir occasionally.
- NOTE: Double recipe for family or company.
- Using kitchen scissors, I always cut the tough stems from canned tomatoes because they never cook down.
