  • 2 - 8 oz. cans tomato sauce
  • 2 - tsp. dried oregano
  • 2 - tsp. dried basil
  • 2 - whole bay leaves
  • 1 - tbsp. sugar
  • - salt and pepper to taste

How To Make marinara sauce, basic and easy

  • Step 1
Over medium heat, heat oil in a large skillet and add onion, and garlic powder. Saute for 3 to 5 minutes until onions begin to appear translucent. Add the tomatoes and tomato sauce; stir. Add the herbs and bay leaves. Sprinkle in sugar, salt and pepper. Lower heat and continue to simmer, uncovered, for about 20 to 30 minutes. Stir occasionally.
  • Step 2
NOTE: Double recipe for family or company.
  • Step 3
Using kitchen scissors, I always cut the tough stems from canned tomatoes because they never cook down.
