Ingredients
- 3 - tbsp. oil
- 1 - large onion, chopped
- 2 - heaping tsp. garlic powder
- 1 - 28 oz, can whole peeled tomatoes with juice
- 2 - 8 oz. cans tomato sauce
- 2 - tsp. dried oregano
- 2 - tsp. dried basil
- 2 - whole bay leaves
- 1 - tbsp. sugar
- - salt and pepper to taste
How To Make marinara sauce, basic and easy

Step 1Over medium heat, heat oil in a large skillet and add onion, and garlic powder. Saute for 3 to 5 minutes until onions begin to appear translucent. Add the tomatoes and tomato sauce; stir. Add the herbs and bay leaves. Sprinkle in sugar, salt and pepper. Lower heat and continue to simmer, uncovered, for about 20 to 30 minutes. Stir occasionally.

Step 3Using kitchen scissors, I always cut the tough stems from canned tomatoes because they never cook down.
