This was my siblings' and my favorite food as kids, and we all still love it.

We sometimes use rotini as the ridges seem to hold the cheese a little better than elbow macaroni.

  • 3 c
    elbow macaroni
  • 1 c
    velveeta
  • 1 c
    shredded cheddar
  • 1/4 c
    butter
  • 3/8 c
    flour
  • 2 c
    milk

How to Make Macaroni and Cheese

Step-by-Step

  1. Cook the macaroni according to the package instructions.
  2. Melt the butter in a small sauce pan. Add the flour and cook over medium heat for one minute, stirring constantly.
  3. Gradually stir in the milk. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until thick and bubbly (gradually turn up the heat if the mixture does not thicken).
  4. Remove from heat, add cheese, and stir until melted. Add the sauce to the macaroni. Add salt, pepper, and/or paprika to taste.
