italian sausage sauce

I usually like to simmer my spaghetti sauce for a few hours but this recipe is just as good when simmered for only a few minutes. Hence, it's great for something quick. I serve this over Angel Hair pasta along with Chicken Parmesan. Mmmmm, good!

Ingredients

  • 1 pound sweet italian sausage
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 - 8 oz. sliced baby bella mushrooms
  • 1 tablespoon dried oregano
  • 1 tablespoon dried basil
  • 1 - slightly rounded tsp. garlic powder
  • 1 - 15 oz. can tomato sauce
  • 1 - 15 oz. can stewed tomatoes
  • - 6 oz. can tomato paste
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup red wine
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons sugar
  • - salt and pepper to taste

How To Make italian sausage sauce

  • Step 1
    In a large saucepan or Dutch oven, brown sausage, onion, mushrooms, garlic powder, oregano, basil, and salt/pepper.
  • Step 2
    Add tomato sauce, tomato paste, and stewed tomatoes. Add water, wine and sugar. NOTE: Sugar should be to your taste so add 1 Tbsp. and see if it suits.
  • Step 3
    Simmer for about 20-30 minutes. Serve over pasta.
