homemade vodka sauce
My sister got this recipe from a co-worker many years ago. It is so good, that we make this all the time for our families, and serve it to guests at parties. It is always a hit. It is easy, and delicious. Try it, you won't be disappointed!

Ingredients
- 16oz boxes penne pasta, cooked and drained
- 28oz cans crushed tomatoes
- 28oz cans whole tomatoes in tomato sauce
- 6-8 slices prosciutto, cut into bite size pieces
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/4 cup vodka
- 1 teaspoon each, salt, pepper, basil or to taste
- - olive oil
- 1 tablespoon butter
- - parmesan cheese to taste
How To Make homemade vodka sauce

Step 1Cover bottom of a large skillet with a thin layer of olive oil. Saute onion in oil until lightly browned.

Step 2In separate skillet, melt a tablespoon of butter and saute prosciutto until lightly browned (be careful not to burn it).

Step 3When onion is browned, add both cans of tomatoes, vodka, salt, pepper, and basil. Bring to a low boil.

Step 4Add heavy cream, and mix well. Add prosiutto with butter at this time. Check seasonings, and you can add a little more vodka if you want.

Step 5Cover pan, and allow sauce to simmer on low for 1 hour.

Step 6Meanwhile, cook penne pasta according to package directions, and combine with vodka sauce and parmesan cheese when sauce is done. Enjoy!!
