My sister got this recipe from a co-worker many years ago. It is so good, that we make this all the time for our families, and serve it to guests at parties. It is always a hit. It is easy, and delicious. Try it, you won't be disappointed!

prep time 20 Min
cook time 1 Hr
method Stove Top
yield 6-8 serving(s)

Ingredients

  • 16oz boxes penne pasta, cooked and drained
  • 28oz cans crushed tomatoes
  • 28oz cans whole tomatoes in tomato sauce
  • 6-8 slices prosciutto, cut into bite size pieces
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup vodka
  • 1 teaspoon each, salt, pepper, basil or to taste
  • - olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • - parmesan cheese to taste

How To Make homemade vodka sauce

  • Step 1
Cover bottom of a large skillet with a thin layer of olive oil. Saute onion in oil until lightly browned.
  • Step 2
In separate skillet, melt a tablespoon of butter and saute prosciutto until lightly browned (be careful not to burn it).
  • Step 3
When onion is browned, add both cans of tomatoes, vodka, salt, pepper, and basil. Bring to a low boil.
  • Step 4
Add heavy cream, and mix well. Add prosiutto with butter at this time. Check seasonings, and you can add a little more vodka if you want.
  • Step 5
Cover pan, and allow sauce to simmer on low for 1 hour.
  • Step 6
Meanwhile, cook penne pasta according to package directions, and combine with vodka sauce and parmesan cheese when sauce is done. Enjoy!!
