"Old School " Spaghetti

Growing up we didn't always have all the ingredients for a spaghetti dinner so my mom would create things with what she had. This recipe became a staple in our neighborhood (Oak Cliff) not just our home.

2 lb
ground chuck
1 large
bell pepper - diced
1 medium
onion - diced
1 Tbsp
minced garlic
1 Tbsp
dried basil (fresh if you have it)
1 can(s)
diced tomatoes
1 can(s)
tomato sauce (15 oz)
8 oz
tomato puree
8 oz
shopeg corn
8 oz
macaroni, elbow
2 Tbsp
slap yo mama seasoning (lawry's or something similar)


1Cook bell pepper, onion and ground beef (add some Slap yo Mama seasoning to taste. Drain.
2Cook the elbow macaroni as the box instructs, drain and rinse with cold water.
3Mix all the other ingredients in a large pot over medium heat.
4Once you get a boil add the ground beef mixture and simmer for ten minutes.
5Add the pasta and simmer for 5 more minutes.
6Serve and eat.
7Side note:
You can sub a can of Hunts spaghetti sauce for the 15 oz can of tomato sauce.

Some add parmesan cheese for a topping
