This is a nice, very creamy stove top macaroni and cheese that doesn't require a $6 brick of Velveeta. It has a very nice cheddar flavor and my family just loves it.

Ingredients

  • 1 box (12 oz.) large macaroni noodles or mini ziti
  • 3/4 stick butter
  • 4 tablespoons all purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon seasoned salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon dry mustard
  • 1 can cheddar cheese soup
  • 1 package (8 oz.) shredded cheddar cheese

How To Make creamy stove top macaroni & cheese

  • Step 1
Cook the macaroni according to package directions, drain, set aside.
  • Step 2
Melt butter in pot over medium heat. Wisk in flour, 1 tablespoon at a time.
  • Step 3
Pour milk and continue to stir with wisk until thickened. This will make a thick white sauce.
  • Step 4
Add salts and dry mustard and stir to blend seasonings.
  • Step 5
Add macaroni & cheddar cheese. Mix until cheese is melted and sauce is smooth.
  • Step 6
If cheese sauce is too thick, add a bit more milk to thin out.
  • Step 7
Occasionally I like to add meatballs to this dish. Smoked sausage or diced ham are also good additions to this macaroni & cheese.
