Got this recipe from Southern Living and added my own twist to it...

  • 2 lb
    lean ground beef
  • 1/2 large
    onion, finely chopped
  • 1/4 c
    celery ribs, finely chopped
  • 1/2 c
    bread crumbs, seasoned
  • 2 large
  • 1 slice
    day old bread, tore in small pieces
  • 2 tsp
    creole seasoning
  • 1/4 c
    whole milk
  • 1 - 8 oz
    can of tomato sauce
  • 1/3 c
  • 2 Tbsp
    worcestershire sauce, divided
  • 1 Tbsp
  • 1 slice
    bacon ~ (optional)

How to Make Southern Style Meatloaf


  1. Melt butter in a medium nonstick skillet over medium heat; add celery and onion, and sauté 7 minutes or just until tender. Let cool.
  2. Meanwhile, in a large bowl stir together ground beef, 2 eggs~lightly beaten,1/2 can of tomato sauce. 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce, breadcrumbs, celery mixture,and next ingredients. Shape into a 10- x 5-inch loaf, cut bacon in half, and put on top of loaf. Bake at 350°for 45 minutes.
  3. Stir together remaining 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce, tomato sauce, and 1 tablespoon ketchup until blended, pour evenly over meatloaf, and bake 15 to 20 more minutes, or until no longer pink in center. Let stand 10 minutes before serving.
