Got this recipe from Southern Living and added my own twist to it...

lean ground beef
1/2 large
onion, finely chopped
1/4 c
celery ribs, finely chopped
1/2 c
bread crumbs, seasoned
2 large
eggs
1 slice
day old bread, tore in small pieces
2 tsp
creole seasoning
1/4 c
whole milk
1 - 8 oz
can of tomato sauce
1/3 c
ketchup
2 Tbsp
worcestershire sauce, divided
1 Tbsp
ketchup
1 slice
bacon ~ (optional)

How to Make Southern Style Meatloaf

Step-by-Step

  • 1Melt butter in a medium nonstick skillet over medium heat; add celery and onion, and sauté 7 minutes or just until tender. Let cool.
  • 2Meanwhile, in a large bowl stir together ground beef, 2 eggs~lightly beaten,1/2 can of tomato sauce. 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce, breadcrumbs, celery mixture,and next ingredients. Shape into a 10- x 5-inch loaf, cut bacon in half, and put on top of loaf. Bake at 350°for 45 minutes.
  • 3Stir together remaining 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce, tomato sauce, and 1 tablespoon ketchup until blended, pour evenly over meatloaf, and bake 15 to 20 more minutes, or until no longer pink in center. Let stand 10 minutes before serving.
