applesauce meat loaf

I first made this years ago, when my kids were little and they liked it when main dishes were a little sweet. I also suspect they liked it because it looks like a volcano.

Ingredients

  • 2 slices orowheat country white bread, shredded to bits
  • 1/2 cup applesauce, unsweetened
  • 1 pound ground meat (i use buffalo)
  • 1 - egg, slightly beaten
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped celery
  • 2 tablespoons finely chopped onion
  • 1 teaspoon dijon mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • dash pepper
  • TOPPING
  • 1/2 cup applesauce, unsweetened
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vinegar
  • 1/2 teaspoon dijon mustard

How To Make applesauce meat loaf

  • Step 1
    Combine bread crumbs and applesauce in a medium bowl. Add ground meat, egg, celery, onion, Dijon mustard, salt and pepper; blend thoroughly. Shape into a round loaf in an 8x8x2-inch baking pan.
  • Step 2
    Combine topping ingredients in a small bowl. With a spoon make a crater-like depression in top of loaf. Pour topping into crater.
  • Step 3
    Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour.
