This is one of my husbands favorites. I used to make it for my son when he was little and now I just make it for my husband quite often during the winter months. We still love it.

  • ·
    1 lb lean ground beef
  • ·
    1/2 cup chopped onion
  • ·
    2 chopped garlic cloves
  • ·
    1 16 oz. can cut green beans, drained
  • ·
    1 101/2 oz can condensed tomato soup
  • ·
    instant potato flakes, made according to pkg. 4 serving amount
  • ·
    chopped fresh/dry parsley or paprika for garnish
  • ·
    dot with butter over potatoes

How to Make Hamburger Pie


  1. In a skillet combine meat, onion, garlic if using, 1/2 tsp salt, and a dash of pepper
  2. Brown meat lightly
    Drain excess fat from pan
  3. Add drained green beans and tomato soup
  4. Turn into a 1 1/2-quart casserole dish
  5. Prepare instant mashed potatoes according to package directions.
  6. Prepare enough mashed potatoes for 4 servings
  7. Season with salt and pepper
  8. Spread the mashed potatoes evenly over the meat mixture
  9. Dot with butter and sprinkle chopped parsley or sprinkle paprika over top
  10. Bake uncovered in a 350F for 25-30 minutes until top is lightly browned
