This dish is so decadent and creamy! We loved the addition of cream cheese. It adds a slight tang and makes the macaroni super creamy. Even though there's only a little bit, you taste a bit of spiciness from the mustard. Very yummy! Perfect as an entree or a side dish. A great recipe to use leftover holiday ham too.   • 6 Tbsp
    butter
  • 3 Tbsp
    flour
  • 2 c
    milk
  • 8 oz
    cream cheese
  • 2 c
    shredded cheddar
  • 2 tsp
    spicy brown mustard
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 1/4 tsp
    pepper
  • 3 c
    uncooked macaroni
  • 3/4 c
    breadcrumbs
  • 2 Tbsp
    parsley, minced
  • 1
    ham steak, precooked and cubed

How to Make Cheese and Macaroni with Ham

Step-by-Step

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Cook macaroni.
  2. Melt 4 tablespoons butter in large saucepan. Stir in flour until smooth. Add milk, stir constantly until bubbly. Add cream cheese. After melted, stir in salt, pepper, and mustard.
  3. Add cheddar, stir; remove from heat.
  4. Combine pasta, ham, and sauce.
  5. Add to baking dish.
  6. In a separate small pan melt 2 tablespoons butter; toss breadcrumbs and parsley.
  7. Sprinkle over macaroni.
  8. Bake uncovered at 400 degrees for 15-20 minutes.
