grand taco pie
This is one of my all-time favorite go-to dinner recipes. The combination of the Grands biscuits, taco seasoned meat, and sour cream is delicious and one your family will want again and again! In step 5, you can add other ingredients to personalize it to your family's liking (such as corn, cooked baked potatoes, diced peppers, etc).
Blue Ribbon Recipe
This super simple taco pie is filled with Mexican flavors. Store-bought biscuits are the base for this pie and act as a crust. Ground beef is combined with taco seasoning for a hearty filling. We liked the freshness of the tomato slices under the layer of cheese. If mozzarella cheese isn't your favorite, sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese or a Mexican cheese blend over the top. Once baked, the cheese is nice and gooey, and the biscuit crust gets crisp. We served ours with a big dollop of sour cream.
Ingredients
- 1 package Pillsbury Grands biscuits (8 biscuits)
- 1 pound ground beef or ground turkey
- 1/2 medium onion, chopped
- 1 package taco seasoning mix
- 1/2 cup water
- 1-2 medium fresh tomatoes
- 16 ounces solid ball, mozzarella cheese
- 1 package sour cream
How To Make grand taco pie
-
Step 1Biscuit Dough Prep: Open the biscuits. In an approximate 10x10 ungreased baking dish, take four biscuit dough rounds and on the bottom of the baking dish, place one round of dough in each corner. Gently press and blend the biscuit dough rounds to completely cover the bottom of the baking dish.
-
Step 2Then take the remaining four biscuit dough rounds, break each in half, and up the sides of the baking dish, place biscuit halves in each corner, and one in between the corners and continue to press and blend the biscuit dough along the sides and into the bottom until you have completely lined the bottom and sides of the baking dish with the biscuit dough. Set aside. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
-
Step 3On the stove, saute the onion in a splash of olive oil until transparent.
-
Step 4Add ground beef or turkey until browned. Drain, if necessary, and return to heat.
-
Step 5Add taco seasoning mix and 1/2 cup of water. Simmer for 10 -15 minutes.
-
Step 6Transfer the meat mixture to the dough-lined baking dish and distribute evenly.
-
Step 7Cut fresh tomatoes into slices, as you would for sandwiches, and place evenly on top of the meat mixture, covering completely.
-
Step 8Cut the mozzarella ball into slices and place evenly on top of the tomatoes, covering completely.
-
Step 9Place in the 350 degree preheated oven for 35 - 40 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown and the cheese is completely melted over the top.
-
Step 10Remove from oven and let rest for 5-10 minutes before cutting. Cut into desired portions and serve with sour cream.
