swiss steak
This makes a nice meal out of a bland round steak. This can be made and simmered on the stove or in a crock pot but, adjust the cooking time. In my version of this recipe, I like to blend my tomatoes in the blender for just a bit to slightly puree it; making it a little saucier….just a personal preference. :) Serve with mashed potatoes, or over noodles, or rice.

Ingredients
- - 1 pound beef round steak, trimmed of fat
- - 2 tablespoons oil
- - 1/2 cup onion, chopped
- - 1/2 cup green bell pepper, chopped
- - 1-2 cups mini carrots, chopped
- - 1 (15 ounce) can petite tomatoes or stewed tomatoes slightly pureed, (2 cups)
- - 1 tablespoon tomato paste
- - ½ teaspoon oregano
- - 1 teaspoon sugar
- - salt and pepper to taste
How To Make swiss steak

Step 1Preheat oven to 325.

Step 2Heat the oil to medium high in a large skillet, or an electric skillet.

Step 3Salt and pepper the meat on both sides.

Step 4Add meat to the skillet and cook until browned on both sides; approx. 10 minutes.

Step 5Slightly puree the tomatoes in a blender. Mix the tomatoes, tomato paste, and oregano, and sugar together to combine.

Step 6Add the meat to a baking dish and cover the meat with the tomato mixture, carrots, onion, and green pepper. Note: If you choose not to puree the tomatoes, add a small amount of beef broth to the mixture

Step 7Cover with foil and bake for 2 hours until meat is tender.
