This was my mother-in-law's recipe. It is my husband's favorite dish.

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds round steak
  • 1 can tomatoes whole large
  • 1 can 8 oz tomato sauce
  • 4 ounces tomato paste
  • 1/2 cup sliced carrots
  • 1 cup unbleached white flour
  • 1 tablespoon oil

How To Make swiss steak

  • Step 1
    Place round steak on cutting board. Cut into 6 servings. Place a bit of flour on a piece of meat and pound the flour into the meat with a meat mallet. The idea is to make meat 1/2 the original thickness.
  • Step 2
    After you have done this to all the meat, you may begin browning the meat in the oil. Heat a skillet on med heat until hot and brown meat in batches.
  • Step 3
    Place all tomato items into a large pot and add beef. If you like, Worcestershire sauce may be added. (1 tsp)Add carrots at this time.
  • Step 4
    Serve this with mashed potatoes and beans or a salad.
