sweet & sour meatballs

I got pretty melancholy making these to take to work. The first time I had these was almost 30 years ago. My mom had a new recipe to try, so she got up early and made these to take to work for our monthly food day. Today I did the same (well made them the night before), but thought of her many hours standing in the kitchen at the stove making good things for us.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 cup dried bread crumbs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons finely chopped onion
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon worcestershire sauce
  • 1 - egg
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1- 13 1/4 ounces can of pineapple chunks
  • 1/3 cup vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 small green pepper, coarsely chopped

How To Make sweet & sour meatballs

  • Step 1
    Mix beef, bread crumbs, milk, onion, salt, worcestershire sauce and egg. Shape into 21 - 1/4" balls. Cook over medium heat until brown.
  • Step 2
    Cook meatballs in skillet and remove. Drain fat from skillet. Mix brown sugar and corn starch in skillet. Stir in pineapple with syrup. Add vinegar and soy sauce. Heat to boiling, stirring constantly.
  • Step 3
    Reduce heat and add meatballs. Cover. Simmer, stirring occasionally for 10 minutes. Stir in green pepper and simmer for 5 more minutes.
