Ingredients
- 3 pounds ground meat of choice
- 3 cans 6 oz tomato paste
- 3 cups water
- 3 tablespoons onion flakes, dehydrated
- 3 tablespoons paprika
- 6 tablespoons brown sugar
- 3 teaspoons cumin
- 3 teaspoons salt
- 3 teaspoons cornstarch
- 1 1/2 teaspoons garlic powder
- 3/4 teaspoon ground mustard
- 3/4 teaspoon celery seed
- 3/4 teaspoon pepper
How To Make sloppy joes
-
Step 1Works best with thawed meat!! Place meat in crockpot and crumble with a spoon. (If you must use frozen meat, either thaw in microwave or place in crockpot and cook for at least one hour before adding other ingredients. It's best for the working moms, to plan this and have the meat fully thawed before hand.)
-
Step 2Add spices, tomato past and water. Mix well.
-
Step 3Cover and cook on low for 6-7 hours or high for 3-5 hours. (Times depend on your pot, carefully watch the first time you make it and notate the accuracy needed for your pot.) Meat is done when it is crumbly and fully cooked.
-
Step 4Serve with hamburger buns, cheese, and preferred toppings.
-
Step 5OPTIONAL: I like toasted buns, so I heat mine in the oven with a light spread of butter on the "whites" before topping with meat and cheese. Kids don't care, they just want to eat!
