This was a favorite when the kids were growing up.....and it still is!! And the kids learned a little German on top of it!!

Ingredients

1 1/2 lb
ground round
2 Tbsp
fine, dry bread crumbs
1
egg
1 tsp
salt
1/4 tsp
pepper
butter or margarine
1 small
onion, sliced
1 can(s)
(11 3/4 oz.) beef gravy
1 Tbsp
white vinegar
1/8 tsp
ground ginger
1
bay leaf
dash of cloves
freshly ground pepper and salt to taste

How to Make Mach Schnell Sauerbraten

Step-by-Step

  • 1Combine ground beef, bread crumbs, egg, 1 teas. salt and 1/4 teas. pepper. Form into 6 patties.
  • 2Brown well on both sides in butter or margarine in large frying pan with lid. Remove from pan and keep warm.
  • 3In pan, saute onions until golden. Add gravy, vinegar and spices. Stir well and bring to a boil. Return beef patties to mixture. Cover and simmer for 30 minutes, basting occasionally.
  • 4Split english muffins; toast and butter. Place patties on muffin halves, spoon gravy over patties. Serve remaining muffins on the side.
