    (15 ounces) tomato sauce
  • 1 c
    water
  • 1 tsp
    tobasco sauce
  • 4 heaping Tbsp
    chili powder
  • 1 heaping Tbsp
    oregano, dried
  • 1 tsp
    ground comino (cumin)
  • 1 clove
    garlid, pressed or grated
  • 1 tsp
    salt
  • ·
    black pepper, to taste
  • 1 tsp
    cayenne pepper
  • 1 tsp
    paprika
  • 12
    red chiles, seeded and chopped
  • 4 to 5
    serrano chiles, seeded and chopped
  • 2 Tbsp
    flour
  • ·
    water

How to Make Chili Recipe of Senator John Tower of Texas

Step-by-Step

  1. Sear the meat and onions in a large Dutch oven until meat is gray. Add tomato sauce and 1 cup water to the searing meat and onion mixture.
  2. Add tobacco sauce, chili powder, oregano, comino, garlic, salt, pepper, cayenne pepper, paprika, red peppers and Serrano chili peppers.
  3. Simmer for covered 1 hour and 15 minutes. Make a thickening by mixing flour and water, add to chili.

    Simmer an additional 30 minutes
