  • 1/4 c
  • 3 lb
    lean beef sirloin cubed
  • 3 Tbsp
  • 1/2 tsp
  • 1/2 tsp
    dried thyme
  • 1 c
    canned beef broth
  • 1 c
    dry red wine a burgundy
  • 1/2 c
    button mushrooms
  • 12 small
    onions white out of jars

How to Make Beef Bourgugnon


  1. Heat oven to 325 degrees
  2. Saute beef cubes in shortening until brown stir in flour , pepper, thyme scrapping bottom of skillet.
  3. Transfer all into 2 qt. baking dish Pour on beef broth and wine . Cover and bake 2 hours stirring occasionally.
  4. After 2 hours add mushrooms and onions and bake 2 more hours add more wine if needed.
    Skim off any fat and serve with mashed potatoes.
