I got this recipe more than 40 years ago from my mother-in-law. The flavor is unique and everyone to whom I've ever served it asks for the recipe. It's simple to put together and takes very little time. Just don't leave out the "unusual" ingredient or it won't be the "Best Spaghetti Sauce You'll Ever Eat." Since the last time I made this sauce I developed Muscular Dystrophy and can no longer cook, so I don't have a picture. Doris

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 1/2 cups chopped onions
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • 1 cup bread and butter pickles, finely chopped
  • 2 cans tomatoes, diced (14.5 oz)
  • 6 ounces tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons oregano, dried
  • 2 teaspoons basil, dried
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 cup red wine, optional (do not use cooking wine)

How To Make the best spaghetti sauce you'll ever eat

  • Step 1
    Brown ground beef and onion in olive oil. Add chopped garlic and fry a minute longer. Add remaining ingredients and simmer, covered, about 1 hour, stirring occasionally. Uncover and cook 15 minutes more to thicken. Serve over hot spaghetti.
