spaghetti sauce

I make this in my 6 qt. Nesco slow cooker and simmer on low heat for several hours. I also prefer to use the Italian sausage links.

Ingredients
- 1 can (28 oz.) crushed tomatoes
- 1 can (12 oz.) tomato paste
- 1 can (16 oz.) tomato sauce
- 2-3 cups hot water
- 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
- 1 teaspoon oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon basil
- 1/4 - 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper
- 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
- 1-2 teaspoon salt
- 1 pound lean ground beef
- 5 - Italian sausages, mild or hot OR
- 1 pound bulk Italian sausage
- 1 large onion, diced
- 2-3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 medium bell pepper, chopped
- 1 pound fresh mushrooms, sliced or quartered
How To Make spaghetti sauce

Step 1Combine first 10 ingredients; allow to simmer at least 1/2 hour.

Step 2While sauce is simmering, brown ground beef, onion and garlic. If bulk sausage is used, brown with ground beef. Drain meat mixture.

Step 3Add meat mixture to tomato mixture. If sausage links are used, cut into bite-sized pieces and add uncooked pieces to sauce.

Step 4Add bell pepper and allow to simmer 1-2 hours; add mushrooms and simmer additional 1/2 hour.

Step 5Serve with cooked spaghetti and parmesan cheese, if desired.
